This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
Cons:
  • Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

  • A good country truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

During the summers I use this truck for my small business. In its 8ft bed it can haul a considerable amount of weight, up to 3 or 4 yards of wet mulch. As a college student, I drive back and forth to home often, and the gas mileage is great. Passing power is exceptional, I feel, for the V6. Acceleration isnt always reliable and I sometimes question the torque, but I love it. The interior is basic, and easy on the eyes. Ive driven the similar Ford model, and in general, the steering, and power feels more profound and well done.

  • New trucks should not see the shop - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The truck is a 2004 and has been in the shop 3 times for leaning, one time for burned out 2nd and 3rd clutch in transmission and the speed meter locking up. The outside trim is boring and the front right tire going square. The service dept. told me about the tire going square was from not rotating the tires, but I rotated my tires every 3-4 thousand miles and have the paperwork to prove it. This truck only has 20,000 miles and has all these problems. What happened to "like a rock"? This logo needs to be changed. I also talked to alot of Chevy owners who where having the same problem with the transmissions.

Great truck! I have owned many Chevy trucks and this is the best one so far! I definitely prefer the V8. Better gas mileage and power than the 4.3L V6. Fit and build flawless. Sure footed in ice and snow.

  • Incredible - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought a the 4wd work truck with the upgraded chrome package and seats. It also had the chrome 20 inch Chevy bowtie rims. Absolutely beautiful truck. This is when they came out with the split grille that is much better looking than the 2003-2005 models. Very pleased with this truck. The only reason I got rid of it was because of a round trip commute to work of 60 miles. Gas was going up and I had to do something. I really regret getting rid of it.

  • Always wanted a Z71 - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

All in all, a good truck. Hate the tires that came with it, Bridgestones. Why I couldnt get lucky and get the Goodyear Wranglers. I have the LT2 package, and you would think I would have a mirror on the drivers visor (I chew, so I have to check my teeth prior to meetings). Hate the 6 disc cd player, still confused on how to work it and I have owned the truck for 2 years now. Little plastic caps keep falling off the door that cover the screws. I would also like to know if there is a way for the dual climate control to move on both sides. I hate having to move mine to, say 68, then the passengers side to 68 as well.

  • My 5th Chevy truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have always driven a Chevy truck from a 1968 to a 2006. The power and performance of this truck is perfect. My friend has a pontoon boat that looks big as a house. No problem, hook it up and were gone. And a very comfortable ride also. Long or short drive no problem. My next truck will be a Chevy truck. The best truck there is.

  • SS Pickup - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I cannot find anything wrong with this truck. Everything works and all the fits are tighter than anything Ive seen on a Tundra. Everyday I find more stuff it has and neat litte "toys" that make this a really fun truck. It also is great for towing... I had to pull a trailer back home (1100 miles) the first week I had it and never even knew it was there. Great Truck!

  • Great all around truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have over 22K in 8 months on this truck. I drive long distances, I haul a boat with it, I haul my motorcycles, my quads. I use it as a work truck on my acreage, I use it to drag yard tools and it is the best truck I have ever owned. I had an 03 F-150 and an 05 Titan and I will never buy anything but Chevy again. Averaging over 18MPG overall. Tows great, hauls great, durable, long lasting. Love the no nonsense interior as opposed to the reviews that want luxury sissy interiors. Tough truck, great price.

  • Z71 w/3.42 Axle Ratio - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have 5,100 miles on my Victory RED 06 now and not excited or disappointed. This is a nice average American truck that has had 7 or 8 years to work out the proplems since its introduction in Fall of 1998. This truck still does not compete with the likes of the Nissan Titan, as of yet....I hope the 2007 Silverado redo will put the Silverado back on the top. I dont tow anything and choose the low gears (3.42) for fuel economy, and quite surprised with 17.1 average with 15 city/19 highway, just as the window sticker indicated. Plenty of power, but not as much as the Nissan Titan which in turn gives 14 mpg average. Brakes work great since GM dropped rear discs for old-school drums in 06
